I am incredibly excited to announce the release of my Maker tees and share this editorial with you!
THE VISION These tees are part of a greater vision to support humanitarian efforts through my brand. They come from a burning passion to help women and children trapped in sex slavery and human trafficking. Each shirt is made in the heart of Kolkata’s red light district by women who have escaped sex slavery, through the amazing organization Freeset. The tees are sewn and screen-printed on-site using only organic fairtrade cotton. Workers are hired based on need, not skill, and receive on-the-job training and support to build a new life. Behind each shirt is hope, freedom, and dignity. My goal is to continue selling these tees and branch into more designs to send ongoing business to the women of Freeset. For those asking how to help, the Freeset Trust accepts donations to provide healthcare, childcare, and education in literacy and budgeting for the workers. THE DESIGN While this tee has a mission, I also wanted it to stand alone as a beautifully designed shirt I’d wear daily. The “Maker” slogan is something I’ve long wanted on a tee—it encapsulates all of us who create. I commissioned typography artist Jasmine Dowling for this project, and the collaboration was perfect. I love the design so much I can’t wait to wear it again. I’m also considering releasing a more masculine “Maker” design for men and some kids’ tees. THE DETAILS These tees run true to size for Megan Nielsen Sizing. If you usually wear a Medium in my patterns, order a Medium. My model has a 36″ bust and wears a Small for a close fit; size up for a looser fit. Sizes range from XS to XXL. This is a product I plan to continue indefinitely. The tees are super soft organic cotton and can be laundered like a regular tee, though I wash mine in cool water and hang to dry.Thanks so much for all of your support!
